Some of our neighbors have nowhere safe to sleep. At Wayside Christian Mission, we work hard to change that — and we don't do it alone.

We want to thank Metro Louisville for helping us serve people who are often the hardest to reach. Metro's biggest gift is its strong support for our low barrier shelter, a place that welcomes people other shelters have struggled to serve.
 

This shelter has room for a hundred people, and it keeps the door open for those who need it most. Maybe someone broke the rules somewhere else but wants a fresh start. Maybe they are used to sleeping outdoors. Maybe they have a pet they can't leave behind, or a partner they won't be split up from. We still have rules — but we keep the barriers as low as we can, because everyone deserves a chance. Without Metro's generous support, this shelter would not be possible.
 

Metro also lends a hand with two more of our shelters by passing along some federal HUD funding:

• Our family emergency shelter keeps parents and children together in a safe place, with case management and other services so each family can get back on their feet.

• Our single women's shelter is a safe place for women on their own, many of whom have been hurt or treated badly. Here, they can finally rest.

These shelters run on the kindness of many partners. With support from Metro Louisville, HUD, and generous donors, here is what we accomplished together last year across these programs:
 

• 48,067 nights of safe lodging

• 709 different people served across these three shelters

• 100 people who moved on to a permanent home of their own
   

That last number is the one we love most. One hundred of our neighbors now have a place to call their own. None of it would be possible without you.
